Each session we have an overall theme and for 2020, our Artistic Interns came up with “seeds,” the idea being that since we could not do theater in the traditional sense, that we were planting the seeds of future growth. This song and video were created entirely by our Blueprint online students.
In this online dance class with faculty member Vasthy Mompoint (The Prom - Broadway and Netflix, SpongeBob SquarePants OBC), Vasthy invited students to focus on change, whatever that meant to them. It could be change in the world, change in themselves - it was their call.
Take a look inside our online acting class from this past summer with Elizabeth Stanley (Tony nominee for Jagged Little Pill, On The Town revival OBC) during which TPAP student Gabe Rodriguez’s question sparked a conversation about the importance of creating a well-rounded character.
In this clip from voice class online with faculty member Ato Blankson-Wood (Tony nominee for Slave Play, Lysistrata Jones OBC) called “Vocal Interp: Bringing Your Voice to the Song,” TPAP student Simón Gómez Villegas sings the heartfelt “The Schmuel Song” from “The Last Five Years.”
Both Blueprint sessions will consist of live, interactive online programming. Blueprint kicks off on Sunday evening with a meet-and-greet where students also find out their class groups, which are kept small to ensure individual attention. Classes then begin on Monday and occur weekly Monday through Friday. In addition to the daytime classes, evenings and weekends are devoted to optional activities including numerous information sessions with college and university representatives, social events, and individual lessons.
Students are welcome to attend one or both of the Blueprint sessions. The curriculum for each session will be similar, but the faculty may vary and, just as in years past, is not announced in advance. Our core group of faculty for all programming is made up of educators and professionals in the Broadway, television, and film industry. Click here to learn more about our faculty.
In addition to the daily schedule, Blueprint will also include:
INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL Q&As
In addition to regular classes, faculty members also host weekly Q&A sessions with other artists, which are announced on the day of the session. Last summer’s sessions included exclusive conversations with:
- Original Mean Girls Broadway cast members Erika Henningsen (Cady) and Grey Henson (Damian)
- Hamilton Director Tommy Kail and Texas State Acting Department Chair Neil Patrick Stewart
- Tony Winner Celia Keenan-Bolger (To Kill a Mockingbird), and Tony Nominee Elizabeth Stanley (Jagged Little Pill)
INDIVIDUAL LESSONS
Each student receives one 30-minute individual lesson of their choice in acting, dance, or voice as well as one 30-minute individual college audition coaching. These lessons are scheduled outside of regular class sessions at a time chosen by the student. Additional individual lessons are available for an extra fee.
COLLEGE AUDITION CURRICULUM
COLLEGE INFORMATION SESSIONS
During Blueprint, representatives from numerous colleges and universities with prestigious performing arts programs join us to speak to interested students. These optional sessions, which parents are also welcome to attend, are held in the evenings and on the weekend outside of other programming and can sometimes include classwork in addition to information about the school. They are a great way to get to know what a school has to offer and their educational style.
In addition, we also hold general information sessions on the college audition process for both students and their parents.
BLUENIFIEDS
Most of our students are familiar with the Unified college auditions held each year in various cities across the U.S. At our online Blueprint program, we help students prepare for the overwhelming blitz of college auditions by holding our own practice version of these, which we call “Bluenifieds." We dedicated the two Fridays during each Blueprint session to these online mock auditions. On a typical Bluenifieds day, a student first participates in a dance call, then must zig and zag their way through seven or more mock college auditions, each audition room challenging them in a unique way. Our former students tell us that this process was vital to their success at their actual auditions.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT DETAILS
In the evening, students are divided into different groups with a faculty member for what we call “Research and Development” or “R&D.” This is basically a structured block of time that allows faculty members to work with a group of students on material they feel will help develop our company members as artists. Students, faculty, and artistic interns collaborate on these pieces that are designed to focus on the creative process rather than creating a polished finished product. R&D groups rotate in a three-night cycle, so there are about nine hours to work on any given piece. At the end of each R&D cycle, we gather together to share the work that has been created in what we call an "open rehearsal." This open rehearsal is a great opportunity for our company members to support each other and learn from each other’s work.
